American Walnut is one of the scarcest and most coveted native North American hardwoods, in a class by itself. Walnut comprises only about 1% of the hardwood grown in the US. Many large walnut logs are shipped to Europe where the demand is high.
The sapwood of walnut is nearly white to cream, while the heartwood is light brown to dark, chocolate brown, often with a purplish cast and darker streaks.
The wood is heavy, hard and stiff and with a high shock resistance. It is generally coarse textured and produces distinctive grain patterns. Walnut is the classic go-to lumber for dining room tables, bedroom furniture, bookcases, desks, tables, cabinets, shotguns and rifles, and interior finishes.
The all brown / heartwood boards are select grade and better. I typically have 4/4, 6/4, and 8/4 boards available. Custom sizes possible by request.
The brown / white or heartwood / sapwood boards are cut at various sizes and thicknesses, between 4/4 and 8/4. They have a fantastic mix of colors. Some live edge, some cut edge and some with one of each.
Use your imagination to make shelving, tables, or a headboard.
Walnut lumber ranges from $3 per board foot to $7 per board foot depending on board size and quality.
