50 – Oct. 1976 – VG/FN! . "The Mystery of the Wraith!" is by Bill Mantlo, Sal Buscema, Mike Esposito, Dave Hunt, Janice Cohen, and Letterers Gaspar Saladino & Karen Mantlo! Spider-Man, P.O. Jean DeWolff, and Iron Man recruit Dr. Strange to help them solve the mystery of the identity of the Wraith, believing there to be a supernatural element when evidence suggests that the Wraith is possibly Jean's deceased brother Brian! Spider-Man and Dr. Strange go to the scene of Brian's death, Iron Man reviews the forensic evidence and Jean DeWolff goes to investigate her brother's tomb. As Spider-Man and Dr. Strange learn that Brian wasn't killed on the scene, Iron Man finds that the fingerprints on the Wraith's notes match that of Phillip DeWolff, and Jean is shocked to find her father AND the Wraith hiding out in a secret lab where she is now captured! Phillip then explains how he invested money on inventions that might restore Brian to life, and save him from the bullet wound to his head. The last experiment instead linked their minds, so that Brian, in his trance-like state, was able to be controlled by Phillip. Phillip created the Wraith identity to take revenge on criminals using lethal force! Iron Man arrives with a specially prepared helmet and puts the helmet on Phillip, incapacitating both he and the Wraith! Brian is still affected by the bullet.
76 – Dec. 1978 – VG! “If Not For Love …” by Chris Claremont, Howard Chaykin, Jeff Aclin and Juan Ortiz! The Master of the Mystic Arts receives an ancient deck of tarot cards from an anonymous person. When Doctor Strange reads the cards a powerful magical force is unleashed inside his Greenwich Village townhouse! Fortunately, both Peter Parker and Carol Danvers are in the neighborhood and upon observing the commotion...the Amazing Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel along with Wong rush into Dr. Strange's home! After the dust settles, the web-slinger, Ms. Marvel, and the Sorcerer Supreme journey to New Orleans to find out who has stolen Clea's soul! And down on the bayou, the trio runs into Silver Dagger and Marie Laveau! Quote of the book: “At least Clea’s calmed down. It helped when I reminded her that – even though I am master of the mystic arts – I am also a man …” – Doctor Strange.
