This DC Comics Bronze age book is in VG condition with All pages here and complete! Flat, Clean and Colorful but some usual spine & edge wear for a book in this grade!
5 - June 1973 - VG! "The Devil's Brother!" by Arnold Drake, John Rosenberger & Vince Colletta! Someone mails Linda Danvers a strange book written in some kind of unknown alphabet. Shortly after opening it, Supergirl feels dizzy and her powers fade gradually! She and Superman take a group of teenagers to an amusement park and at the House of Shudders, Rowena, one of her wards, disappears. Supergirl goes through a dimensional doorway to the world of Dax, a planetary tyrant, who reveals he mailed the mysterious book to her to strip her from his powers, and he holds Rowena hostage! He'll only restore her powers and give back Rowena if she will lead a group of student rebels into an ambush. Supergirl reluctantly agrees, but insists on seeing Rowena's wristwatch as proof of her abduction. After she hands back the watch, Dax restores her powers & Supergirl flies off, gains the trust of the rebels, and does indeed lead them into a trap. The soldiers of Dax capture the rebels and Dax releases Rowena. When he is holding Rowena's wristwatch Supergirl activates a sleep-gas that she had planted in the watch. Dax is rendered unconscious and Supergirl defeats Dax's forces. Turning them over to the student rebels, Supergirl takes Rowena and returns to her own dimension just before the warp-gateway closes!
Zatanna: "The Girl Who Split in Two!" reprinted from Hawkman #4! Carter Hall is alarmed when two items -- A Shang Dynasty statue, & a Celtic Ceremonial cup have suddenly appeared in the Midway City Museum, he and Shiera decide to check things out as Hawkman and Hawkgirl. After a time, they find two women who merge together to become Zatanna! She tells them that her father had gone missing and that she has been trying to use magic in order to find his location. Learning that he'd been seen both in China and Ireland, she tried to use a spell that would divide her in two so that she can look in both places at once. However, the spell didn't work quite as planned and she found that she was immobilized. She used the last of her magical strength to transport the objects that appeared in the museum hoping it would prompt Hawkman and Hawkgirl to investigate! After they talk, Zatanna teleports away, thanking Hawkman and Hawkgirl for their assistance! by Gardner Fox & Murphy Anderson!
9 - Jan. 1974 - VG/FN! "The Super-Amazon!" by Cary Bates & Art Saaf sees Supergirl feeling fed up with men, Supergirl flies over the Pacific Ocean and sees Queen Hippolyta and Nubia being attacked by Shark-Men! Supergirl swiftly does away with the Shark-Men, but Nubia has been wounded. Kara right away flies them to Paradise Island. As Nubia is being taken to a physician, Hippolyta praises Supergirl and states she would her like getting Kara joining the Amazons as her adopted daughter! Kara takes up her offer, passes the tests with flying colors and earns her Amazon tiara, bracelets, belt and boots. Hippolyta is officially making her an Amazon Princess, when they are told Nubia is dying cause of the Shark poison, and the only antidote is an herb growing on Cologi, a tiny and dangerous island & Kara volunteers to bring back the Cologi root in time in spite of the dangers! Kara flies back to Paradise Island with the antidote in time to save Nubia's life. Her adventure made her see that exiling myself in Paradise Island would be wrong, so she gives her Amazon tokens back and says goodbye to Hippolyta. As Supergirl leaves, the Amazonian Queen states she will always think of her as her third daughter!
TRIVIA: Hipppolyta calls Kara her third daughter, even though she already has three daughters: Diana, Nubia and Donna Troy! This issue marks the first time Supergirl would become an Honorary Amazon!! In the future, other incarnations of Kara Zor-El would become an Amazon sister!
