226 - April 1974 - VF! "Hot–Cold War in Central City!" Heat Wave is released from the penitentiary, but Captain Cold hypnotizes the Flash into fighting him—in a Captain Cold costume! by Cary Bates, Irv Novick, Dick Giordano & Frank McLaughlin!
"The Powerless Power Ring!" Hal Jordan makes a campfire in the wilderness and prepares chili following Oliver's recipe , but adds canned mushrooms (YEP, this is the very 1st mention of GREEN ARROW'S CHILI!!!!!!!!) After dinner, he recharges his ring & sees a flash of yellow light in the sky, then sleeps. Hal is awaken by an approaching black bear. He tries using the ring to take the animal away, but his ring misses the target & he flies up until the bear walks away. He tests his ring and tries to uproot a tree, but he can't control the beam and shatters the tree to splinters, and the surge of energy makes him feel dizzy. He hears a woman crying for help about to fall and not trusting his ring climbs the mountain to rescue her.he slips, but uses his ring to save the girl. Back on the ground, he prepares again a dish of chili to share with her, but the girl warns him about the canned mushrooms, saying there are reported cases of people becoming dizzy and unable to operate vehicles, and Green Lantern realizes what was affecting his ring! by Dennis O'Neil & Dick Giordano!
227 - June 1974 - GD/VG. "Flash -- This Is Your Death!" sees Captain Boomerang escape jail with the help of his father, who also helps in putting Flash into a deathtrap! There's Nothing like family bonding! by same!
"My Ring... My Enemy!" Green Lantern, capturing a band of crooks in a California forest, acts so obnoxiously and viciously that even he is surprised, and discovers a strange yellow explosion in the sky causes his good deeds with the ring to be balanced with evil ones! Now, only he can save campers trapped by a fire, and only if he uses his power ring! by O'Neil, Dick Dillin & Giordano!
